The 2005 IAA show in Frankfurt marks the sales launch of the latest addition to the Maybach model line-up: the newly developed 57 S. The “S” stands for “Special” – an eminently appropriate choice, as this new Saloon responds to the wishes of demanding customers for even greater engine output and agility. In order to meet their requirements, its 6-litre V12 biturbo engine has been enhanced by Mercedes-AMG to deliver 45 kW / 62 hp more than the Maybach 57 while the suspension set-up has also been modified to provide a firmer response. This combination makes the Maybach 57 S the ideal high-end luxury Saloon for owner-drivers seeking the very latest high-performance technology implemented in a manner which embodies the perfection characteristic of the brand. The 0 to 100 km/h acceleration time of just five seconds provides impressive proof of the outstanding performance offered by the new Maybach 57 S.
New twelve-cylinder power plant with maximum torque of 1000 Nm
The new, even more powerful twelve-cylinder power plant in the Maybach 57 S has a displacement of six litres and – thanks to biturbo technology and an air/water intercooler – a maximum output of 450 kW/612 hp. he impressive maximum torque of 1000 Nm (electronically limited) is available across a broad engine speed range (between 2000 and 4000 rpm). As a result, Maybach drivers who favour a sporty driving style can always call on prodigious reserves of power. Every twelve-cylinder engine features a redesigned cover with a plate bearing the signature of the Mercedes-AMG specialist who built the entire engine by hand in accordance with the traditional “one man, one engine” philosophy.
The modified, firmer suspension set-up which the Maybach development team have created for the 57 S reconciles differing requirements to perfection. It allows the engine’s impressive performance and particularly high dynamic potential to be put down on the road safely and reliably at all times. But it also maintains the extremely high level of ride comfort which is characteristic of the Maybach luxury Saloons.
Exterior design emphasizes dynamic character
Discreet and tasteful exterior visual highlights emphasize the distinctly dynamic character of the new Maybach 57 S. These include an exclusive monochrome colour scheme featuring special black or silver paint finishes, a modified front section with an enhanced radiator grille and revised light units, a discreet “57 S” legend on the front wing below the A-pillar and on the boot lid, as well as striking new 20-inch spoked wheels. At the rear, the two redesigned tail pipes of the exhaust system are integrated in a revised rear apron which signals the high-performance capabilities of the 57 S. Even when the new Maybach is stationary, its dynamic and elegant pres-ence clearly identifies it as an exclusive luxury saloon with outstanding performance – characteristics which make it a compelling choice for the committed owner-driver.
New interior touches reflect harmonious combination of luxury and dynamism
The contemporary Maybach interpretation of high performance, impressive driving dynamics and unashamed luxury continues inside the 57 S where high-quality materials are crafted to perfection in accordance with the Maybach tradition and new leather appointments help to set the striking yet tasteful tone. Deliberately distinctive and particularly exclusive, the visual statement made by the Maybach 57 S is picked up by the interior which features a carefully balanced combination of piano lacquer and carbon elements or, optionally, poplar wood elements – especially in the areas within the driver’s reach and immediate field of view – to create an atmosphere of dynamic elegance.
The new Maybach 57 S will take its place in the luxury brand’s Center of Excellence from November.
