The RL’s Super Handling All-Wheel Drive (SH-AWD) system introduces a whole new way to corner. Like other all-wheel-drive systems – specifically, those designed to enhance vehicle traction on dry or wet surfaces – SH-AWD also helps steer the vehicle and enhance its maneuverability by compensating for under-steer and oversteer while cornering. It uses the independent torque distribution control system, meaning it can vary the distribution of engine torque between the front and rear wheels, up to 70% either way. But when you power into a corner, the RL does something you’ve never experienced before: it can send up to 100% of that same rear-wheel torque to either the left- or right-side wheels – dramatically increasing your turning precision. Indeed, during skidpad tests, the RL posted a remarkable .89g of lateral force.

Horsepower peaks at a thrilling 290, and maximum torque is rated at 256 lbs-ft. Behind such impressive numbers are some of the most sophisticated technologies in the industry. VTEC to inspire immediate response, wherever the needle lies. Twenty-four valves to motivate flow on both intake and exhaust sides. PGM-FI Programmed Fuel Injection to ensure precise, efficient fuel use. Lightweight engine block and heads made of heat-dissipating aluminum-alloy. And the icing? It’s designed to travel at least 100,000 miles before a tune-up.
