Press Release :

Dubai, United Arab Emirates – It’s no secret that dramatic design and technology drove Cadillac Escalade to the top of the large luxury SUV category, in terms of both image and sales in the Middle East. In 2009, Escalade extends that leadership thanks to the new ultra-luxury Platinum Edition and more segment-first technologies in the line-up. With three body styles – Escalade, the extended length Escalade ESV and EXT luxury sport-utility truck – Cadillac offers the widest array of distinctive models in the segment.

All variants of the Escalade are instantly identifiable as a Cadillac and incorporates styling cues from Cadillac’s landmark Sixteen concept vehicle, including a detailed signature grille and characteristic front vents.

“The Platinum Edition extends Escalade’s continuing status as the large luxury SUV of choice for top consumers,” said Adib Takieddine, Marketing Manager for Cadillac in the Middle East. “The Escalade Platinum offers even more dramatic design and technology, the pillars of Cadillac’s overall renaissance, and will surely be the ultimate luxury accessory for discerning Middle East customers.”

The Escalade Platinum promises to re-write the top end of the segment with premium features and tons of utility. Also adding panache to the line-up are premium features such as the Magnetic Ride Control which is standard on the Platinum Edition but also becomes available as an option on other member of the Escalade family in 2009.

Each model will represent unique niche in the segment from being street savvy, practical or a lifestyle statement. Common to all models are the ability to combine power, size and strength with trademark Cadillac styling and technology, to position Cadillac strongly in the large luxury SUV market.

New technologies for 2009
A host of enhancements for 2009 reinforce Escalade’s premium position as a technology leader with integrated features designed to bolster comfort, convenience and safety. The new features include: Side Blind Zone Alert – This safety system uses ultrasonic sensors behind the rear fascia on both sides of the vehicle that signal an audible and visual alert if objects are detected in “blind zones.” It will be offered on all models. Meanwhile as per customer feedback inside the cabin a new rearview auto-dimming mirror replaces the previous versions auto-dimming mirror with 8-point compass and outside temperature display.

Design for the best: Unmistakably Cadillac
Details in elements such as wraparound fascias, styled mirrors and integrated running boards enhance Escalade’s flowing design, facilitating an aggressive and elegant appearance. The sleek, toned look includes a windshield angle of 57 degrees, which flows gracefully into the roofline. This also improves aerodynamic performance to a segment-best 0.363 coefficient of drag, which helps improve fuel economy and reduce wind noise.

Interior
The warm and inviting interior features a unique premium and distinct layout. The cabin, which comes in two colours, Ebony and Cashmere, also is spacious, with an instrument panel that is lower and moved forward in the vehicle.

The vehicle features a unique instrument panel; instrumentation gauges with white needles and blue light inlays with continuously lit, white-LED backlighting; Nuance leather-covered seats; leather-covered door trim and centre console; fabric-covered interior pillars; and an available heated steering wheel. A power-assisted rear liftgate that opens and closes with the touch of a button also is standard.

Escalade delivers convenience with an industry-exclusive power fold-and-tumble second-row seat feature that eases access to the third-row seat, and a power-assisted rear liftgate that opens and closes with the touch of a button.

The Escalade also includes a segment-first Bose 5.1 Digital Surround system, as well as the eight-inch touch screen for DVD-based navigation, including the controls for the DVD, CD with MP3 capability,. The Escalade Platinum also has auxiliary audio / video jacks in the front and rear.

Matching powertrain across the line-up
The Escalade line-up features integrated powertrain, chassis, safety and interior systems that deliver the most powerful, efficient luxury SUVs in the segment, led by a compact and lightweight 6.2-litre all-aluminium V8 engine with variable valve timing technology delivering 441 horsepower at 6000 rpm and 565 Nm of torque at 4400 rpm.

This all-aluminum engine uses Variable Valve Timing (VVT) to optimize camshaft timing to improve low-rpm torque and high-rpm horsepower. The introduction of VVT through the unique, dual-equal cam phaser is the industry’s first application of VVT on a mass-produced V8 overhead-valve engine.

This engine is mated to a Hydra-Matic six-speed automatic transmission. One of the industry’s most advanced automatics, Hydra-Matic features clutch-to-clutch shifting and has a wide, 6.04:1 overall ratio – including two overdrive gears – that helps deliver an excellent balance of performance and fuel economy.

Safety
Built on GM’s robust full-size SUV platform, the Escalade is designed to be among the industry’s safest and most secure vehicles, with numerous safety systems and crash-avoidance technologies. Occupant protection features include head curtain side air bags with rollover protection for all seating rows and an industry-first 360-degree front safety belt pretensioner activation system.

In keeping with Cadillac’s reputation for advanced technology there’s large, four-wheel disc brakes and a Bosch ABS system help ensure braking performance. ABS works with the StabiliTrak stability control system’s rollover mitigation technology. This software algorithm technology uses sensors to proactively predict vehicle “tip-up” and apply appropriate brake force to help prevent such events.

Driver confidence is assured in unpredictable weather conditions with Escalade’s full-time all-wheel-drive system, four-channel StabiliTrak system and a Borg-Warner one-speed full-time open-differential transfer case. Any of the four wheels can be independently controlled with the four-channel system, offering more stable, controlled ABS stops, improved fuel economy, reliability and serviceability, and greater yaw-stability control. Benefits include reduced understeer and proper brake pressure for traction and yaw stability control at all times.

Escalade Platinum
The icing on the cake for 2009 is the Platinum Edition which brings in a new level of highly specialized and implicitly luxurious features befitting connoisseurs of the Escalade. Escalade Platinum is the fullest expression of the brand’s dramatic design and luxury features that’s offered on the regular Escalade and the extended-length Escalade ESV.

Escalade connoisseurs can easily spot the Platinum editions by looking at specific and unique features such as the large 22-inch multi-spoke chromed aluminium wheels, exclusive Platinum logos on the bodywork and unique front fascia and grille patterned after the marque’s acclaimed and hot-selling CTS sports sedan.

However, the Platinum edition doesn’t just bank on cosmetic features only. In fact it is one of the most technically advanced SUVs in the market with features such as the segment-first LED headlamps and the world’s fastest-acting standard active suspension, Cadillac’s innovative and acclaimed Magnetic Ride Control. Magnetic Ride Control is used in GM’s performance cars such as the CTS-V and all-new Corvette ZR1.

Magnetic Ride Control is the world’s fastest reacting suspension system and gives the Escalade Platinum more precise body motion control. It is a real-time damping system – “reading” the road in 1-millisecond intervals – that replaces conventional mechanical-valve shocks with electronically controlled shocks filled with a synthetic fluid containing minute iron particles. Under the presence of magnetic charge, the iron particles align to provide damping resistance almost instantly. Occupants can enjoy the benefits of the heated and cooled cup holders in the cabin.

Escalade
Escalade sports a sleek, clean and athletic form with improved aerodynamics. It is instantly identifiable as a Cadillac and incorporates styling cues from Cadillac’s landmark Sixteen concept vehicle, including a detailed signature grille and front fender vents. The Overall exterior of the Cadillac Escalade is 5143mm long, 1887mm high and the vehicle sits on a wheelbase of 2946 mm.

The warm and inviting interior features a premium and distinct layout. The cabin, which comes in two colors, Ebony and Cashmere, is spacious, with an instrument panel that is moved forward in the vehicle.

Escalade ESV
As always, the Escalade ESV will lead the family pack as the largest member of the Escalade family, offering maximum passenger accommodations and cargo capacity. In addition to providing five-star comfort, its goal is to be the ultimate symbol of power and achievement, a palace on wheels.

The vehicle is 534mm longer than Escalade, and the extra dimensions have been put to use for the occupants who can enjoy premium seating space and flexible cargo-carrying capability. It features all the same elements and features as the standard Escalade, but adds an additional DVD system and set of headphones with large, eight-inch flip-down screen for third-row passengers. The Escalade and Escalade ESV are available in AWD and 2WD configurations.

Escalade EXT
The 2009 Cadillac Escalade EXT brings supreme versatility to the Escalade family. Its versatility is built on a unique sport utility truck (SUT) architecture blended carefully in the traditional Escalade body style thereby endowing it with a part-SUV, part-pick-up profile. It has also been endowed with innovative engineering solutions such as the segment-exclusive Midgate that enables the rear compartment to flex between passenger and cargo space. EXT users can easily convert the truck from a five-passenger SUV into a two-passenger pick-up with eight feet of protected and secured storage. The Midgate, located behind the rear seat, can be folded into the cabin, enabling the cargo area to expand from five feet to eight feet, for a total of 101 cubic feet in secured volume. A lockable, standard tonneau cover protects items in the cargo bed, or can be removed entirely for added space.

The EXT features standard, full-time All-Wheel-Drive (AWD). A strong frame and chassis support the Escalade’s robust powertrain and enable exceptional responsiveness and ride and handling smoothness.

The Escalade line-up is always ready to take the role that can arise at any moment. Equally at home for a black tie event or lugging cargo, each of the Escalade models is a true multi-persona vehicle by itself.
