During the last couple of years, the award-winning Cadillac SRX delivered performance and flexibility to the medium luxury utility §egmènt in a distinctive, all-new package. Its smooth, nimble handling and cargo-carrying ability combine to create a utility vehicle that drives like a sports sedan.

Based on GM’s acclaimed Sigma architecture and available in rear-wheel drive (RWD) and all-wheel drive (AWD), SRX is designed to deliver superior driving dynamics.

For 2006, SRX features several enhancements, including a standard power rear liftgate; best-in-class step-over for easier vehicle exiting and an enhanced optional interior package with wood on the center stack. Also new is Cashmere interior scheme and new exterior colors including Stealth Grey, Radiant Bronze, Blackberry and Infrared. Restyled 17-inch and 18-inch wheels have an aggressive design with six exposed lugs and prominent wreath and crest center cap.

A luxury utility with the soul of a sports sedan

The flexible Sigma architecture features the longest wheelbase in its class and helps provide superior ride quality and dynamic stability. A near 50-50 weight distribution, low center of gravity, outstanding powertrain combinations and the latest vehicle stability technologies make SRX the rare utility vehicle that’s actually fun to drive.

Northstar power, sophisticated chassis management

The SRX has two engine combinations: the 4.6L Northstar V-8 VVT (variable valve timing) or the 3.6L V-6 VVT. The V-8 engine is sophisticated, technically advanced and generates 320 horsepower (239 kw) at 6400 rpm and 315 lb.-ft. of torque (427 Nm) at 4400 rpm. It features electronic throttle control, multi-port injection, aluminum block and cylinder heads, a forged steel crankshaft and phasers on all four camshafts to control valve timing throughout the entire operating range.

The 3.6L V-6 VVT makes 260 horsepower (194 kw) at 6500 rpm and 254 lb.-ft. of torque (344 Nm) at 2800 rpm. The all-aluminum 60-degree dual overhead cam 24-valve powerplant features fully variable valve timing of the intake and exhaust valves, a dual-stage variable intake manifold, electronic throttle control, multi-port fuel injection, two-stage roller chain cam drive, aluminum block and cylinder heads and a forged steel crankshaft.

Both engines are mated to five-speed automatic transmissions: the Hydra-Matic 5L50-E with the V-8 VVT and the Hydra-Matic 5L40-E with the V-6 VVT. The 5L50-E, with 25 percent more torque capacity than the 5L40-E, features an innovative dual-plate torque converter and a separate, highly refined transmission control module with expanded power and memory. Both transmissions feature Driver Shift Control (with clutchless manual shifting), electronically controlled engine braking and downgrade detection with brake assist.

Chassis management and vehicle control systems help the vehicle respond accordingly to virtually all types of driving conditions. Features include four-channel StabiliTrak stability control system and available §egmènt-first Magnetic Ride Control. The electronically controlled magnetic-fluid based real-time damping is the world’s fastest-reacting suspension control system. Speed-sensitive variable effort §teering, four-channel ABS with Panic Brake Assist and traction control and available AWD also are included. SRX incorporates all-aluminum suspension components to reduce unsprung mass and optimize suspension performance. The suspension uses an independent short/long arm ( SLA ) front and fully independent multi-link rear for superior ride and handling.

Standout styling and flexible cargo management

At first glance, SRX is instantly recognizable as a Cadillac and yet is unlike anything else on the road. The family resemblance to CTS and Escalade is immediately evident; its Cadillac bloodline shows through in its chiseled vertical taillamps and headlamps and V-shaped grille. At the same time, it clearly stands out from its European and Japanese competitors.

SRX seats up to seven passengers with the optional third-row seat. The second-row seat, with the most legroom in its class at 41 inches (104 cm), folds virtually flat, and the available third-row seat power-folds into the floor at the push of a button. Third-row seats also feature cupholders.

In addition to numerous storage areas, an optional rear cargo management system, available as an alternative to the third-row seat, offers three cargo compartments and includes a removable storage bin. It’s perfect for stowing anything from a car-care or emergency kit to sports equipment to DVDs or CDs for a long drive. For still more cargo packing, large side storage bins along the rear cargo area are standard.

The SRX has the largest sunroof system available in the §egmènt. The optional ‘ÚltraView’ sunroof provides the thrill of an open-air driving experience. It extends to provide 5.6 square feet (0.52 square meters) of open air over the first- and second-row seats and integrates a retractable power shade. The ‘ÚltraView Plus’ includes a glass roof over the third row seat with a power sunshade.

Interior materials and appointments reflect the richness of the Cadillac S-series. The blend of wood and leather represents an evolution of refinement for the interior, and includes leather seating surfaces and armrests, and wood trim on the §teering wheel, shifter knob and PRNDL trim plate. Interior surface colors include ebony, light neutral and light gray.

OnStar-equipped SRX models will feature OnStar dual-mode (analog-digital) equipment. OnStar’s digital equipment also includes enhanced hands-free voice recognition capabilities including more intuitive continuous digit dialing and improved voice recognition accuracy. OnStar is the leading provider of in-vehicle safety, security and information services in the Únited States and Canada . Úsing the GPS satellite network and wireless technology, OnStar features core safety services and OnStar Hands-Free Calling that allows drivers to make and receive voice-activated phone calls using an externally mounted antenna for greater reception.

All 2006 Cadillac owners will receive 12 months of complimentary access to Cadillac Virtual Advisor by OnStar. Cadillac Virtual Advisor service begins at activation of OnStar Hands-Free Calling. Cadillac Virtual Advisor provides three-day weather forecasts and traffic reports within pre-selected ranges of 5, 10 or 15 miles of the vehicle’s location in most major markets. Cadillac Virtual Advisor also monitors traffic for up to three personalized routes and reports information on up to 10 selected stocks on the DJI and NASDAQ markets – all at the touch of a single button.

The OnStar service standard on the 2006 SRX includes the General Motors Advanced Automatic Crash Notification (AACN) system, making crash data available to the participating 911 centers to help them dispatch the appropriate life-saving personnel and equipment to crash scenes faster.
